IWSA has set up a Science Laboratory to conduct various science programmes for school children with the following objectives :

To develop keen interest and better understanding of science in school children through

    "do yourself experiments" (hands-on activities).

To equip students with various skills which will be needed in higher classes.

     These are :-

     Observational skill-directed observation.

     Manual skill-handling of apparatus.

     Purposeful correlation of observations.

     Drawing valid conclusions.

     Verbal communication of results.

To inculcate scientific temper.

Application of knowledge and attempting innovation.

SUNDAY SCIENCE & COMPUTER CLUB :

The club was inaugurated on August 15, 1999 for children of age group 8-14 years There are a junior and senior groups.

RESOURCE PERSONS

Scientists from IWSA, BARC and others experts in different disciplines of science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) closely interacted with the students. For computer activity, experienced instructors guided the students.
Besides regular Sunday activities, visits to industries and special talks by experts were organized. Programmes, in collaboration with other organisations, like Nehru Science Center, CD viewing, short projects, field trips and debates were arranged.

SUMMER WORKSHOPS :

Short duration workshop on specific areas in science based on curriculum of a particular standard were arranged for students. This included a short lecture & experimentation, with noting of observations. Free interaction with resource persons were also organized to clarify the different concepts.

PROGRAMME FOR TEACHERS :
Workshops for science teachers were organized for the teachers of the municipal schools of Navi Mumbai, Anjumane Islam School, and for three private schools in Vashi. These workshops were held in collaboration with Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education.
